Read highlights of recent research from NBME in support of evolving assessment needs in medical education.
NBME is committed to delivering innovative solutions that provide opportunities for learners to practice and improve their skills and behaviors over time. Learn more about our recent efforts in our research summary, “Supporting Medical Learners in the Development of Key Clinical Competencies.”
We’re evolving in collaboration with the medical education community to better meet the needs of today’s learners and to develop new approaches to assessing complex domains including:
1. Patient-centered communications: our extensive body of research has led to development of a prototype that could help learners practice and improve communication skills
2. Clinical reasoning: two promising initiatives explore how learners arrive at their conclusion
3. Teamwork: early exploratory research focused on assessment of teamwork in graduate medical education
